As part of the training program for the qualification course for the 37 officers of GMTC, a lecture was organized on the environmental reality in Palestine and environmental security, presented by Dr. Mai Rahal, with the participation of Professor Anan Katana.
Dr. Mai Rahal, from the General Administration of Environmental Communication and Education, reviewed the environmental reality in Palestine, addressing the terrestrial, air and water environment and the encroachments and violations it is exposed to. She also explained the role of the Environmental Quality Authority and the security services in following up on environmental issues, stressing the importance of protecting the environment and its connection to preserving national identity and maintaining civil peace.
For his part, Professor Annan Kattana, from the Legal Department, provided an explanation of the legal frameworks regulating the environment and sustainable development sector, reviewing the most prominent national legislation and relevant international agreements, in addition to the concept of environmental security in Palestinian legislation and its role in protecting natural resources and promoting sustainable development.
This lecture comes within the framework of GMTC’s keenness to provide officers with legal and environmental knowledge, and to enhance their awareness of national issues related to environmental protection and supporting the rule of law.
